Ear Training Mode
Click "Ear Training" to open this function in
a new window.
IMPORTANT! Use the "Change Mode" button at
the top right to switch views between the notes to be played and
the harmonics (or harmonic presets) to be used. Notes and harmonics
are displayed as yellow buttons, which can be used in training.
If you wish to identify which note is being played, you can do this
by pressing the play button while in Note Training mode (see "Note
Training" beside "Change Mode" button).
Selecting Notes to
Play
Click "Set Notes" and choose files. Many
files are included with the Harmonic Equalizer. Files used must be
of the format, "A2", "As2", "B2", "C3", "Cs3" etc.
You must select a minimum of two notes.
The files dialogue window should open in the correct place to
choose an instrument folder and the notes within. The "Notes"
folder is inside the Folder at the location where the application
was installed. You can later add more notes using the "Add Notes"
button. You can select the same note from different instrument
folders by using the "Add Notes" button. However, the yellow button
for each instrument will not indicate instrument.
Set Harmonics
Click "Set Harmonics" to select the harmonics
or harmonic combinations to test your ear and recognition. The
image above shows an example of the options, which will appear. The
choices come from the presets on the main EQ form. Which ever
presets exist in the main application will appear here.
You can train your recognition of combinations of harmonics, as
well as single ones. For example, if you wish to train your ear to
recognise sounds with strong second and fourth harmonics, you could
quickly create this preset on the main form using the sliders and
the "Apply to All" buttons. Save the preset and it will appear
here.
Above is the Ear Trainer in Harmonic Training
mode. The play button will play the selected notes (chosen using
the "Set Notes" button) at random and apply the harmonic choices at
random. The EQ level can be adjusted (the mix between the signal
from the harmonic EQ and the original signal). If the EQ Level is
set to 100% it will actually be impossible to identify a chosen
single harmonic (although harmonic combinations could be
identified).
Advice: If you hear that any of your harmonic selections are
particularly quiet, you may find that you have to adjust the EQ
Level slider to identify them. Alternatively, go back to the main
form and make adjustments to the volume level of that harmonic for
that note. Then save the preset. When you are happy with the
preset, you will be able to practice your training in future
without adjusting the EQ Level between notes.
